“Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things work out.” – John Wooden
Welcome to the Basketball section of Beyond the Standings.
This section publishes power ratings, statistical summaries, and analytical reports across men’s and women’s college basketball as well as the NBA and WNBA. The focus is on evaluating team strength using game results rather than relying solely on win–loss records.
Basketball’s high-scoring nature means raw point totals can be misleading. These ratings incorporate scoring margin while intentionally dampening extreme blowouts, allowing strong performance to be recognized without rewarding teams simply for piling up points.
The result is a set of rankings designed to provide a consistent snapshot of how good each team is relative to the rest of the field.
Men’s College Basketball
Power ratings and season-long analysis across Division I and beyond.
Women’s College Basketball
Ratings and reports focused on women’s college basketball competition.
NBA
Professional basketball power ratings and performance summaries.
WNBA
Analytical coverage of WNBA teams and results.
These ratings are best used to compare teams within the same season. They are descriptive tools intended to summarize performance over time and do not account for injuries, roster changes, or situational factors such as rest or travel.
