The undefeated list lost another third of its members this week. We started with nine schools after Week 6, and three took their first loss in Week 7.
That leaves six undefeated schools as of October 18, 2026. James Madison is 7–0, and BYU, Miami, Texas Tech, UCLA and Utah are 6–0. These records come from my Week 7 FBS rankings.
BYU survived last week’s only matchup between unbeaten schools, beating Notre Dame 28–24. The Irish drop off the list along with Georgia and Indiana. James Madison is now the only remaining unbeaten school with seven wins after beating Georgia State 49–22.
The remaining undefeated schools
Schools are grouped by record: 7–0, then 6–0, and listed alphabetically within each group. Each next opponent links to an official schedule source, checked October 20. “At” indicates a road game; “vs.” indicates a home game. Team and opponent records are through Week 7, as of October 18. Dates are in 2026.
| School | Record | Next opponent | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| James Madison | 7–0 | at App State (4–2) | Oct. 22 |

None of the six has a bye this week. James Madison plays at App State on Thursday, October 22, before the other five take the field Saturday. Three schools play at home and three go on the road. No matchup pairs two unbeaten teams this week.
Dropping off the list
These three schools were unbeaten last week and now have one loss.

| Indiana | 6–1 |
| Notre Dame | 6–1 |
Following the list each week
Going into Week 8, six schools still have a zero in the loss column. Utah faces the opponent with the best record among this week’s six matchups: Houston at 6–1. BYU and Texas Tech both head on the road, while Miami hosts a Pittsburgh team that was on this list just two weeks ago. With no unbeaten teams playing each other, all six have a chance to stay on the list. Let’s see how many make it through Week 8.
