What happens when 25 NFL seasons are treated as one enormous season? I combined every result from 2001 through 2025 and ran all 6,742 games through my power-rating system.
New England finishes first after winning 311 games and six Super Bowls during the period. Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Baltimore, and Philadelphia complete the top five.
How the rankings were calculated
My power-rating system evaluates scoring performance and opponent strength across the entire 25 years. Large winning margins receive diminishing weight, which limits the benefit of running up the score. The ratings are recalculated repeatedly until the rankings stabilizes.
Franchise moves are treated as continuations of the same team. Oakland’s results are included with Las Vegas, San Diego’s with the LA Chargers, and St. Louis’s with the LA Rams.
The records, points scored, and points allowed include regular-season and postseason games from the combined 2001–2025 data.
Super Bowls during the 25 seasons
Twenty franchises reached at least one Super Bowl during this period, and 13 won a championship. New England had the most sustained postseason success, while Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Seattle also made repeated appearances and won multiple championships.

Do the championships match the rankings?
Mostly. Nine of the 13 champions rank in the top 10, and every franchise in the top 10 won at least one championship during the period. New England pairs the highest rating with the most championships, while Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Seattle also combine titles with sustained success across the full period.
Kansas City is the most interesting case near the top. The Chiefs rank only seventh despite having the second-most Super Bowl wins and the second-most appearances. That difference comes from the way these ratings treat all 25 seasons rather than giving extra weight to championships. Kansas City went 82-113 from 2001 through 2012, with 405 more points allowed than scored. The franchise then went 166-72 from 2013 through 2025 and made all five of its Super Bowl appearances during that stretch. The recent run was dominant enough to lift Kansas City to seventh, but it did not erase the weaker first half of the study.
The NY Giants provide the clearest example of championships and long-term rankings telling different stories. They won the Super Bowl in 2007 and 2011, yet rank 23rd with a 187-231-1 overall record. Their early success was followed by a 75-139-1 record from 2013 through 2025. Dallas, meanwhile, ranks 12th at 222-195-1 without reaching a Super Bowl. The Cowboys were more consistent across the full period, but the Giants converted two postseason runs into championships. A rating based on every game rewards Dallas; a championship count rewards New York.
Dallas is not quite the highest-ranked franchise without a Super Bowl appearance. That distinction belongs to the No. 11 LA Chargers, who went 218-201. Minnesota and Buffalo also finished in the top 14 without an appearance. San Francisco ranks 15th after reaching three Super Bowls but losing all three, while Atlanta, Cincinnati, Arizona and Las Vegas each made one appearance without winning.
